Library Rules
General Rules and Code of Conduct for the Library
Patron Responsibilities and Conduct:
We love having any and all patrons in our library. However, we do have a few rules to follow to make the environment a peaceful and enjoyable experience for all.
1. Keeping the library quiet is important. Conversations and noise should be kept at an acceptable level. Profanity, offensive, abusive, threatening and indecent conversation will not be tolerated.
2. Children under 8 will need to be accompanied by an adult at all times.
3. Running is not allowed in the library. Please discourage your children from doing so.
4. Throwing items and fighting are prohibited in the library.
5. Littering is prohibited--we have trash cans located at the front door, behind the circulation desk, in the genealogy, and in the public use bathroom.
6. Smoking or tobacco usage is not allowed inside the library. We do have a designated ash tray dispenser near the outside of the front door that can be used.
7. Food and drink are discouraged from being used near the computers and the bookshelves. You may have them at the community tables at the center of the library.
8. Soliciting is prohibited in the library.
9. Animals are prohibited in the library.
10. Shirt and shoes are required in the library. If you have muddy or snow covered shoes, there is a mat near the front door to leave them on.
11. Cell phones are allowed in the library but please refrain from listening to the audio loudly and take phone calls to the front or outside of the building to be respectful of other patrons.
12. Furniture should only be used for its intended purpose and should not be climbed on or have feet placed on them.
13. Personal Belongings: the library is not responsible for personal belongings left unattended.
14. The violation of federal, state, or local laws will not be permitted. Theft, vandalism, and mutilation of library property are criminal offenses that will be prosecuted.
15. Library staff reserve the right to ask anyone to leave for causing a disturbance or being a nuisance and disobeying any of the library rules. Library staff reserves the right to call the police if the situation warrants.
16. Patrons who have repeated disturbances may have their library privileges revoked and not be allowed to enter the building as determined by the board.
